2 Year Old Progress Check

All children who attend our 2 year old setting will have a progress check within their first term with us.

What is a progress check?

The Early Years Foundation Stage requires that parents and carers MUST be supplied with a short written summary of their child’s development in the three prime learning and development areas of EYFS when the child is aged between 24-26 months.

Why do we need it?

The aim of the progress check is so that we can review a child’s development in the three prime areas of the EYFS:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication & Language
  • Physical Development

We want to ensure that parents have a clear picture of their child’s development.  It also enables parents to understand their child’s needs and, with support from practitioners, enhance development at home.

The progress check also helps practitioners to understand the child’s needs and plan activities to meet their needs and interests within the setting.

Who does the check?

Family workers will meet with parents and carers before completing a progress check as we acknowledge that parents know their children best.  They are their child’s first and most enduring educators and this will be reflected within their assessment.
